The Girne American University (GAU) was established in 1985 as the first private higher education institution in Kyrenia and recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. Since its foundation, the university's goal has been to provide comprehensive higher education based on American standards to students of diverse nationalities in Northern Cyprus.
GAU was founded by the American Education Consortium, an international organization formed to collaborate with educational institutions that follow the American education system. The university continuously evolves and improves, maintaining the high educational standards set by the system.
GAU has branches in multiple countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Turkey. It offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, along with professional programs and a summer language school. Additionally, GAU actively collaborates with international universities, offering exchange programs to various countries.
